Senior Troy Fumagalli (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley), who was holding several non-BCS offers, received a scholarship last week from Wisconsin and committed Tuesday night to the Badgers, the Chicago Tribune reported.
"Once Wisconsin offered me it really was a no-brainer for me. They have been my favorite from very early on and I'm really excited about my decision," he said.
Ball State, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Illinois State, Northern Illinois, Toledo, Western Kentucky and Western Michigan were his other offers. Big Ten schools such as Illinois, Iowa and Minnesota showed interest.
"I had some really good offers, but I felt early on that I had a chance to play in the Big Ten," he added. "I had a lot of interest from schools in the conference but they just never seemed to give me a straight answer one way or the other. Wisconsin really was straight forward and honest with me, and I really appreciated that honesty. They told me to hang in there and I'm really glad I waited on them."
Fumagalli attended an Under Armour Combine prior to his junior season where he measured in at 6-foot-5, 200 pounds and posted a 5.19 40-yard dash, 4.64 20-yard shuttle and 24-inch vertical. He has since added 15-20 pounds to his frame.
The Badgers now have 14 pledges for 2013 including three from Illinois.
