Commodores grab WR DeAndre Woods

10/22/2012

ESPN 300 wide receiver DeAndre Woods (Pinson, Ala./Clay-Chalkville) made an official visit this weekend to Vanderbilt for the Commodores' victory over Auburn and committed to the program, multiple sources report.

A tweet from #CCHSFootball confirmed the news, “DeAndre Woods commits to the Vanderbilt Commodores. Congrats DeAndre. You are an unselfish team player and great person. #Go Vandy. “

This is Woods' second commitment. He originally selected Mississippi State in June but opened up his recruitment in September.

Arkansas, Auburn, North Carolina State, Southern Miss, UAB, USC and Purdue, where he visited for the weekend of Oct. 5th, also extended scholarship offers to the 6-foot-3, 210-pound prospect.

ESPN calls Woods, "a very good outside receiver who can stretch the field with his combination of size and speed. He has a physically developed build at this stage. He is a long strider who is able to eat up the cushion on defenders in a hurry."

Woods' pledge fills the void left by Dominic Walker (Orlando/Maynard Evans), another ESPN 300 receiver who recently decommitted. The Commodores' class is currently No. 18 in the nation by ESPN and has 22 verbals.
