OG McBride picks 'dream school' Bama
By Derek Tyson
BEAVERTON, Ore. -- Three-star offensive guard Montel McBride (Plant City, Fla./Plant City) verbally committed to Alabama after the linemen challenge portion of The Opening.
McBride also held offers from Florida State, South Florida, Central Florida and Louisville.
The 6-foot-4, 349-pound interior line prospect said he chose Alabama because it was his dream school.
“It felt like the right thing to do,” McBride said. “I’ve wanted that offer since I was a kid. It went from just being an offer to reality -- like it actually happened. When that offer came I was just so excited and happy.
“The whole coaching staff is behind it. They have great campus and great facilities. I’m going to be on campus within the next two weeks. I just can’t wait. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”
McBride told coach Nick Saban, who was on vacation at the time, about his commitment.
“I told him I wanted to formally commit to Alabama and he was like, ‘Well, we formally accept,’” McBride said. “He was like, ‘Just know that when you commit to us, there is no decommitting or none of that.’ I would never really consider it. I doubt I would ever decommit from such a school like that.”
McBride now joins guard Viane Talamaivao (Corona, Calif./Centennial), center J.C. Hausenauer (Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge) and junior college tackle Dominick Jackson (San Mateao, Calif./College of San Mateo) as other Alabama offensive line commits.
