ACC recruiting storylines: Dec. 19

By Corey Dowlar

The holiday season is fast approaching, and with it, so too is national signing day.

ACC programs are scrambling to firm up their commitment lists and add to them as well. Here are a few top storylines for the conference:

How do the Seminoles manage OL recruiting?

Florida State has picked up offensive line commitments from Brock Ruble (Hyattsville, Md./DeMatha) and Kareem Are (Ft. Scott, Kan./Ft. Scott Community College), giving the Seminoles five commitments along the line.

So with spots coming down to the wire, what will FSU do?

ESPN 300 offensive lineman Roderick Johnson (Florissant, Mo./Hazelwood Central) is still out there and is still a Florida State lean. The Seminoles will take his commitment, no questions asked.

Frank Ragnow (Chanhassen, Minn./Chanhassen) is also still out there as well. So, is there room for both? That remains to be seen.

Announcements coming at the Under Armour Game

Dalvin Cook (Miami/Central) headlines the group of prospects likely to announce at the all-star game at the turn of the New Year.

Florida State and Miami are waging a fierce battle to land Cook, who plans on enrolling early. And both have a very good shot.

The Seminoles could be in the lead at this point having been Cook’s final in-home visit before the dead period.

Does Clemson target a new ILB?

With Raekwon McMillan (Hinesville, Ga./Liberty County) off the board after his commitment to Ohio State, does Clemson move to target another linebacker?

The Tigers have commitments from linebackers Kendall Joseph (Belton, S.C./Belton-Honea), Chris Register (Greensboro, N.C./Dudley), Korie Rogers (Buford, Ga./Buford) and Jalen Williams (Blythewood, S.C./Blythewood). Given that, they do have some talent coming in that can absolutely play.

Perhaps they identify a new target that is flying under the radar, or McMillan was viewed as a surplus of sorts.

How does Miami recruit up to signing day?

Miami is looking to fill out an already good class heading into January. Al Golden and the‘Canes would like to make some final touches to improve it, of course.

Edgar Cerenord (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./American Heritage) could be a late addition. Miami came in and offered recently and Cerenord’s stock is trending up. Previously, it was looking like Wake Forest might be a possible landing spot for him.

Miami will also try to sway Olajuwon Tucker (Gardena, Calif./Junipero Serra), a USC defensive end commit. Tucker will take an official visit to Miami on Jan. 24.

Virginia hoping to make it to signing day intact

The Cavaliers are coming off a disappointing season, yes, but their 2014 recruiting class is still very strong.

Led by Andrew Brown (Chesapeake, Va./Oscar Smith) and Quin Blanding (Virginia Beach, Va./Bayside), Virginia stands to get a nice talent infusion for next season. As long as they can hold on to what they’ve got, that is.

They’d like to add to it, too. Derrick Nnadi (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes), Jamil Kamara (Virginia Beach, Va./Bishop Sullivan) and Melvin Keihn (Baltimore, Md./Gilman) are all out there still.

Can the Cavaliers continue to stay in the race for all of them over the coming weeks? And might they land a couple of them to go with it?

Head coach Mike London would sure hope so.
