“For the next three or four years, maybe five, I will be playing for a national championship, hopefully for three or four years, at the University of Florida,” Porter said on the telecast.
Porter admitted it has always been his dream to play at Florida, and in the fall he will have that chance.
"You watch them on TV all the time, and I think everybody knows when you say University of Florida, it’s like, ‘Oh wow, you are going there?’" Porter said. "And for the head coach -- not just the position coach but the head coach -- to offer me a full ride, it was an honor for me and I’m just glad I have the opportunity to go play football there."
Porter originally committed to South Florida, but when Florida and other schools such as Miami, Wisconsin and UCF started showing interest, the talented athlete opened up his recruitment. It didn’t last long, however. Just a week after the Gators offered, Porter made his pledge to Florida head coach Will Muschamp.
Porter could help Florida in many ways. As a senior, he threw for 3,199 yards and 33 touchdowns and also rushed for 1,499 yards and another 20 touchdowns.
The Gators now have 21 verbal commitments in their 2014 class, including 12 ranked in the ESPN 300.
