Key recruiting visits -- ACC

By Jared Shanker

Signing day is now officially less than a week away. Recruits can make their final visits to colleges this weekend, and then beginning Monday there will be no more in-person contact between coaches and recruits. So coaches better make these last visits count.

Here are the 10 biggest visits affecting ACC teams this weekend, although this late to signing day there is always a potential for a change of plans or cancellation.

1. WR Malachi Dupre (River Ridge, La./John Curtis)
Visiting: UCLA
Florida State is feeling confident, but the Noles probably were hoping to get Dupre, No. 17 in the ESPN 300, for his last visit. Instead he visited Ole Miss during the middle of this week and now goes to UCLA. The Noles would have preferred to turn this into a FSU-LSU battle, but these last two visits could really muddy the waters for the nation’s top-ranked receiver.

Ermon Lane
After decommitting from Florida, Ermon Lane's visit to FSU seems to signal the Seminoles will be his choice on national signing day.
2. WR Ermon Lane (Homestead, Fla./Homestead)
Visiting: Florida State
One receiver the Noles probably won’t have to worry about is Lane, the No. 2 receiver. He will visit Florida State this weekend, and it will be his only official visit since a decommitment from Florida. He is close with RB Dalvin Cook (Miami/Central), who flipped to the Noles from the Gators a month ago. Lane will likely commit on signing day, and his national letter of intent should be headed to Tallahassee.

3. OT Damian Prince (Forestville, Md./Bishop McNamara)
Visiting: Florida
The top uncommitted tackle and No. 26 in the ESPN 300, Prince has finally cut his list to Florida and Maryland. The Terps have felt good about landing Prince for months but over the last month the Gators have flown up his board and into the final two. His last visit is to Gainesville and could be the deciding factor.

4. DT Malik McDowell (Southfield, Mich./Southfield)
Visiting: Ohio State
Much like Dupre, Florida State looks to be in the top two but another visit is on the horizon. Michigan State looks to be the favorite, but McDowell’s father, Greg, continually questions the environment in East Lansing. The Noles could have been a happy middle ground, but now Ohio State, new DL coach Larry Johnson and Urban Meyer get the last crack.

5. ATH J.C. Jackson (Immokalee, Fla./Immokalee)
Visiting: Florida State?
Will he or won’t he? The Florida commit is contemplating a visit to Tallahassee but the situation is always evolving with Jackson. Originally the Noles’ first 2014 commit, he flipped to Florida and after flirting again with FSU, he cut the Noles and named a final two of Florida and Miami. Now the Noles could get the final visit.

6. QB-DT Treon Harris (Miami/Booker T. Washington)
Visiting: Miami
A Florida commitment for several months, Harris is showing late interest in a number of schools. He loved his visit to Auburn and is now planning a trip to Miami. The Canes face an uphill battle in not only passing Florida State but Auburn too. Flipping the nation’s seventh-ranked dual-threat quarterback would be a defining recruiting moment for Al Golden.

7. DT Travonte Valentine (Hialeah, Fla./Champagnat Catholic)
Visiting: Miami
Hurricanes fans are holding out hope that getting Valentine on campus last will be enough to overtake LSU. All signs point to the Tigers, however, after decommitting from Miami earlier this month and officially visiting Baton Rouge the weekend of Jan. 24. While he’s obviously working to get both of them, Golden would probably be happy landing either Harris or Valentine.

8. DT Dexter Wideman (Saluda, S.C./Saluda)
Visiting: Florida State
Although the ESPN 300 defensive lineman committed to the Noles in July, rampant speculation is swirling that sixth-ranked prospect in South Carolina is really leaning toward the Gamecocks. Wideman, No. 179 in the ESPN 300, officially visited Columbia two weeks ago but did not flip. The FSU coaches have done a great job of keeping Wideman in the fold the last two months, and now they can wrap him up on his official visit this weekend.

9. WR Trevon Lee (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons)
Visiting: Duke
The Blue Devils get the final visit after Lee, No. 235 in the ESPN 300, officially visited Vanderbilt’s campus the weekend of Jan. 24. A decision will come down to those two schools, so the Duke coaches have to like the timing of the visits. David Cutcliffe made his in-home visit earlier this week, and he hopes this official visit weekend will wrap up Lee’s verbal pledge.

10. DT Derrick Nnadi (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes)
Visiting: Virginia
The Cavs have not been talked about much in Nnadi’s recruitment, but they do get the final visit. Mike London has done very well in Virginia Beach, and it would not be a total shock to see Nnadi commit to UVa on signing day.
