Lawrence has Beavers offer; several interested

There’s a lot to like about offensive tackle Patrick Lawrence (Waxahachie, Texas/Waxahachie). He’s 6-foot-6 with a 7-foot-plus wingspan, and at 250 pounds, he can put on 20 or 30 pounds without losing athleticism.

At the Next Level Athlete North DFW Video Showcase this past weekend, Lawrence showed why he potentially can be a heavily recruited lineman. He already has an Oregon State offer, and he has interest from Baylor, TCU, SMU and Texas.

“Recruiting’s been good so far. I’m staying busy every weekend,” Lawrence said. “I’m traveling as much as I can and working hard trying to get heavier, stronger and faster.”

Lawrence scored the Oregon State offer at the end of February and said he was “surprised and excited” to get it. However, a first offer has made Lawrence want to work for No. 2 -- and ultimately many more.

“I’m a hard worker, and I do my best in everything I do,” Lawrence said. “I just want to show I’ve got size and potential, and I’ll give it all I’ve got.”

Lawrence was a second-team all-district tackle for Waxahachie, a team that advanced to the Texas Class 4A Division I playoffs while averaging 248 rushing yards per contest.

Lawrence has attended junior days at Baylor and SMU, and he said he’s scheduling an unofficial visit to Oregon State in April. As for a decision, Lawrence said he isn’t looking to announce a commitment any time soon.

For the time being, his focus is primarily on improving his game.

“I need to get stronger and gain some weight,” Lawrence said. “I’m trying to get to 265 or 270 as soon as possible.”

In addition to being a standout tackle, Lawrence said he also can play tight end if necessary. He played tight end earlier in hhis high school career.
