Patriots cut three more players

8/31/2013

The Patriots have cut ties with three more players, as they have released punter Zoltan Mesko, defensive tackle Marcus Forston and George Winn, a league source confirmed.

Mesko, the team's starter in each of the past three seasons, was due to make $1.4 million this season, which could play a role in the team's decision to keep undrafted rookie Ryan Allen, who will have a modest base salary of just $405,000 this season.

Forston was signed as an undrafted free agent last season and had two stints on the team's active roster. He was considered a candidate to be a rotational lineman for the team this season behind Vince Wilfork and Tommy Kelly.

Winn was at the bottom of the team's running back depth chart, though he flashed at times during the preseason. An undrafted rookie out of Cincinnati, he has practice squad eligibility.

The news of these releases was first reported by Ben Volin of the Boston Globe, ProFootballTalk.com and Doug Kyed of NESN, respectively.
