After news came down that former New England Patriots running back LeGarrette Blount had signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers, one of the first questions we had was what it means for the Patriots' depth.
Blount was a breakout back for the Patriots down the stretch, highlighted by a 168-yard, four-touchdown outing against the Indianapolis Colts in the playoffs.
But with Blount now in Pittsburgh, the Patriots may have to add another player at the position.
Four running backs is a regular occurrence for a team's 53-man roster, so the Patriots will be well-served to add depth for competition at the position, be it in the draft or free agency.
Also worth pointing out is that the Patriots do not have a running back under contract beyond 2015. Moreover, Ridley, Vereen and Bolden are set to be free agents after next season.
