Free-agent running back Michael Bush will visit the Patriots.

Bush, 29, was released earlier this offseason after two years in Chicago with the Bears. He was originally drafted by the Raiders out of Louisville in the fourth round in 2007, with career rushing marks of 809 attempts for 3,250 yards.

At 6-foot-1 and nearly 245 pounds, Bush has been an effective goal-line back during his career, totaling 29 rushing touchdowns. He served as the short-yardage option in Chicago as a complement to Matt Forte.

The Patriots are aiming to improve their running back depth, as LeGarrette Blount recently signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers on a two-year deal. The team has just one running back, Jonas Gray, under contract beyond 2014.

Shane Vereen, Stevan Ridley and Brandon Bolden top the depth chart at the position.

Bush's visit was first reported by NFL Network.
Field Yates has previous experience interning with the New England Patriots on both their coaching and scouting staffs. A graduate of Wesleyan University (CT), he is a regular contributor to ESPN Boston's Patriots coverage and ESPN Insider.
