Saints sign CB Trevin Wade

The New Orleans Saints signed second-year cornerback Trevin Wade, according to his agent Michael Hoffman. The move won’t become official until Tuesday, so the Saints have not yet announced a corresponding move.

Clearly the Saints are looking to add cornerback depth after starter Jabari Greer’s “significant” knee injury suffered Sunday -- though the team has not yet announced whether Greer will be placed on season-ending injured reserve.

Wade (5-foot-10, 190 pounds) appeared in 13 games with the Cleveland Browns last year, with 17 tackles and one pass defended. He was drafted in the seventh round out of Arizona in 2012. But he was released by the Browns’ new regime in August -- ironically to make room for former Saints linebacker Eric Martin.

Wade’s agent said he worked out Monday morning with a group of cornerbacks before the Saints elected to sign him.

Second-year pro Corey White is expected to replace Greer as the Saints’ starting cornerback, alongside No. 1 corner Keenan Lewis. The Saints also have veteran backup Chris Carr and undrafted rookie Rod Sweeting on the roster.
