The first road playoff victory in New Orleans Saints franchise history meant a game ball for longtime owner Tom Benson, who purchased the Saints in 1985.

Saints coach Sean Payton talked about Benson during his post-game speech, telling the team that they owe a debt of thanks to him for everything he provides to allow them to be successful.

“I’m really happy for Mr. B,” Saints quarterback Drew Brees said. “It’s nice when you can continue to accomplish those firsts or do those types of things that makes it even more satisfying, gratifying. Especially for an owner like Mr. Benson, who has owned the team for 25-plus years, been through a lot. There’s no better owner as far as just putting us in every position possible to succeed. We know how much he cares about the team. He cares about our players and our coaches, and it’s great to get this one for him.”
