New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton had his hour-long interview session with the media Wednesday morning at the NFL meetings in Orlando, Fla.
Among the highlights, he said the team feels it’s “not a matter of if, but when” a long-term deal will be reached with tight end Jimmy Graham. And he said there is a “ton of respect” between both parties, which makes things easier.
Payton said it’s never easy to release veteran players like the Saints have done this offseason. But he said it’s important to properly grade the roster every offseason, which was a reason for some of the moves.
ESPN.com reporter James Walker was on the scene. He and I will break down the session in greater detail throughout the day. In the meantime, check out my Twitter feed for a collection of updates throughout the session from the reporters who were on hand.
