Werder reported that at least two unidentified teams are negotiating with Jackson -- in addition to his scheduled visit with the Washington Redskins. But Werder mentioned via Twitter that the Saints, New England Patriots and Green Bay Packers are among the teams that are not pursuing the big-play receiver.
There is no indication if the Saints ever showed any interest in Jackson. It never seemed likely, however. As I wrote when Jackson was first released by the Philadelphia Eagles, if there were serious character concerns with Jackson, then the Saints likely wouldn’t be interested. And if there weren’t serious character concerns, then Jackson’s price tag would likely be too high.
The Saints could certainly use another dynamic weapon in their receiving corps and in their return game. But the draft seems like a more likely path to fill that need -- especially since this year’s class of rookie receivers is expected to be very deep.
