METAIRIE, La. -- The New Orleans Saints activated outside linebacker Kyle Knox from the practice squad Wednesday and released recently signed safety Eric Frampton. Knox (6-foot-1, 200 pounds) is a second-year pro who joined the Saints' practice squad midway through the season after being released by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He appeared in four games for Jacksonville with no defensive statistics.

The Saints added cornerback Eddie Whitley to the practice squad.

Saints work out two safeties

The New Orleans Saints worked out two veteran safeties this week: Eric Frampton and Joe Lefeged. There are no indications that the Saints plan to sign either player. As coach Sean Payton said Wednesday while discussing the kicker position, it’s common for teams to bring in players throughout the season to update their grades on available free agents.

Although the Saints have suffered a variety of injuries at the safety position this year, they have good depth -- especially now that veterans Malcolm Jenkins and Roman Harper appear close to returning from knee injuries. Rookie safety Kenny Vaccaro is in jeopardy of missing Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers, however, after suffering two concussions in the last three weeks.
