The Giants are in the market for a veteran linebacker and they are looking at Cincinnati's Rey Maualuga.
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that the Giants have expressed "at least some interest" in the Bengals free agent. It remains to be seen how much Maualuga will command on the free agent market. He visited Arizona recently but left without a deal according to USA Today.
Maualuga, 26, had a career-high 122 total tackles and one sack last season. He has 348 tackles, three sacks and three interceptions in four seasons as a starter for the Bengals.
The Giants have also expressed some interest in Detroit free agent linebacker Justin Durant, according to the Newark Star-Ledger. The Giants, who had Minnesota's Jasper Brinkley in for a visit on Wednesday, have a need for some linebackers. Chase Blackburn and Keith Rivers are both free agents and the team released Michael Boley earlier in the offseason.
But they might not have a ton of money to spend on a linebacker -- barring some cap maneuvering -- since they are hoping to re-sign left guard Kevin Boothe and likely have limited cap space.
