Giants looking at Pat White

By Ohm Youngmisuk

With the read-option all the rage now in the NFL, the Giants are smartly taking a look at Pat White.

A source confirmed White will visit with the Giants, which was first reported by the New York Daily News.

White, 27, last played in the NFL in 2009 for the Dolphins. But the former West Virginia quarterback worked out at WVU's pro day and caught the eye of some scouts. He visited with the San Francisco 49ers and has reportedly spent a month working out with quarterback coach George Whitfield Jr.

The Dolphins' former second-round pick in 2009 held the NCAA record for most rushing yards by a quarterback with 4,480 yards while at West Virginia. He was drafted to run the Wildcat in Miami but he was released in 2010.

But with the emergence of Robert Griffin III and Philadelphia's Chip Kelly now in the NFC East as well, the Giants are doing their due diligence and seeing if White could potentially come in and compete to be their third quarterback behind Eli Manning and David Carr. Having a speedy quarterback can help the team prepare for teams like the Redskins and Eagles in practice.

The Giants' third quarterback on the roster right now is Curtis Painter.
