Big Blue Morning: Injury roundup

By Dan Graziano

Your daily morning check-in on news and notes about and of interest to the New York Giants:

The news of the day: Monday was the day the Giants' players had to show up to clean out their lockers. It was mandatory this year that all of the lockers be completely empty, since a few weeks from now the NFC champions will be using that locker room during the week leading up to the Super Bowl. Giants players weren't thrilled about that, but they blamed themselves for not being that team.

There were a number of injury issues addressed and we'll run through them quickly here:
Other news Monday included Tom Coughlin saying he hoped to be back as head coach and Reese and owner John Mara saying they wanted him back. But as we reported here Monday night, Coughlin's return is still not a certainty, as issues need to be worked out regarding his contract and his coaching staff. Stay tuned for news on that this week, as offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride seems to be at the center of the issues. Coughlin doesn't want to fire him, but other of the team's decision-makers may, especially with Mike Sullivan now available after being fired by the Buccaneers. The extent to which Coughlin would stand up for Gilbride may yet impact this entire situation more than many might have expected.
