Smith is 10 for 17 passing for 187 yards, a passing touchdown, a rushing touchdown and an interception. The Jets also had 58 rushing yards. For comparison, Bills rookie starter EJ Manuel was held to 5 for 10 passing for 53 yards. The Bills had 97 rushing yards. New York's wide receivers also avoided the drops that were such an issue in the 13-10 loss to the New England Patriots in Week 2.
Smith scored New York's first touchdown on a quarterback draw. The Bills had Smith stopped at about the two yard-line, but Bills linebacker Kiko Alonso tried to deliver a tackle from behind and gave Smith the momentum to get into the end zone.
Jets wide receiver Jeremy Kerley returned punts, and converted two third-and-long attempts, in his first half back from a concussion. Outside linebacker Quinton Coples was also back in the rotation for the defense.
Injuries: Jets running back Chris Ivory didn’t leave the sideline, but he was working with a trainer for the second quarter. It was announced he had a hamstring injury, and his return for the second half is questionable. ... Bills cornerback Leodis McKelvin left the game in the first series and is out with a hamstring injury. ... Offensive guard Kraig Urbik is out with a knee injury, and his return is questionable.
