FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- As expected, wide receiver Santonio Holmes won't play Sunday against the New England Patriots. Rex Ryan stated the obvious, saying Thursday "it doesn't look good." Holmes, battling a severe hamstring pull, hasn't practiced in three weeks.
Holmes was in a grouchy mood for his weekly news conference, saying it interrupted his rehab schedule. Perhaps he forgot that players are required by the league to speak with the media.
First question to Holmes: How are you feeling?
"How am I feeling right now? Like, you guys are interrupting my treatment time right now," he said.
Later, he was asked if speaking to the media hampers his rehab.
"I was just on the rehab table and I had to get taken off the table to come do interviews, so yes I do," he said.
Of course, Holmes chooses to conduct the interviews late in the afternoon; the other players speaking during the locker-room period immediately after practice.
Meanwhile, rookie cornerback Dee Milliner (hamstring) was deemed ready to play by Ryan. It'll be interesting to see how the cornerback responsibilities are divided, especially since there's a chance Kyle Wilson (concussion) will play. After sitting out Wednesday, Wilson was limited in practice, working with the red (no-contact) jersey. Darrin Walls has been starting opposite Antonio Cromartie, with Wilson in the slot. Ryan didn't want to tip his hand, but it's worth noting that he benched Milliner at halftime in the Week 2 meeting against the Patriots.
"It's time for him to step up and really get after it with us," Ryan said.
