Jets RB Goodson to be arraigned in N.J.

New York Jets running back Mike Goodson will be arraigned Wednesday morning in Morris County (N.J.) Superior Court, where he is expected to enter a "not guilty" plea on weapons charges.

Goodson was indicted in November on charges of second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon and fourth-degree prohibited weapons and devices. They stem from his arrest last May on Route 80 in New Jersey, where he and Garant Evans -- the driver of an SUV -- were found stopped in the middle of the highway at 3 a.m. Goodson was intoxicated and found in possession of marijuana.

Each faces at least three years in prison if convicted. Evans had a prior gun conviction.

Prosecutors aren't pursuing the drug charges, but Goodson ended up serving a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy. The gun charges are a separate issue, and he could wind up with another suspension if he's found to be in violation of the league's personal-conduct policy.

A loaded Taurus .45 caliber handgun was found by police in the glove box, along with rounds of ammunition, including at least one hollow-point bullet -- ammunition banned in New Jersey. The key issue in the case is determining who owned the gun.

Goodson played only two games last season, suffering a season-ending knee injury in the second game back from suspension. He's under contract for two more seasons.
