Before taking a well-deserved vacation, ESPN draft analyst Todd McShay has left us with another mock draft -- for 2015.
Obviously, this is a take-it-with-a-grain-of-salt exercise, because we all know how hard it is to forecast these things, especially a year in advance. But, why not? Let's have a little fun, particularly since McShay's mock -- from a New York Jets perspective -- is interesting on two levels.
McShay determines the draft order based on win projections by Aaron Schatz, who predicts an utter disaster for the Jets -- a 6-10 record, giving them the fifth pick. Evidently, he's not buying into the new-look offense and the optimism being spewed at One Jets Drive.
With the fifth pick, McShay sees the Jets selecting ... talented, but controversial Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston, the Heisman Trophy winner. He would be the first quarterback off the board, ahead of Oregon's Marcus Mariota and UCLA's Brett Hundley.
If the Jets pick a quarterback, it means they are starting over, probably with a new coach. If they choose Winston, you know there would be some snarky restaurant owners in the tri-state area that run crab-leg specials.
Anyway, like I said, we're just having some fun here. I promise not to hit you with another mock draft until February.
