CORTLAND, N.Y. -- The highlight of training camp, the annual Green & White scrimmage at SUNY-Cortland, occurs Saturday night. It starts at 7:15 p.m.
After eight practices, the New York Jets will break up the monotony by playing themselves in a controlled setting. It's not a true game -- it's offense vs. defense -- but it sure beats the usual practice drills. Throw in a crowd of about 8,000, put the whole thing under lights, and there's definitely some electricity in the atmosphere. Hopefully, it won't be in the form of lightning, as the weather forecast indicates a possible storm.
"Sometimes there is a nice little buzz about that, and the lights are on in more ways than one," Rex Ryan said. "But it will be good, and a lot of times you’ll see guys step up."
Ryan mentioned defensive lineman Leger Douzable as a player who parlayed an impressive Green & White last year into a roster spot. Who will be this year's Douzable? Check back a little later and we'll hit some of the key storylines for the scrimmage.
