Midseason snap counts: Offense
By Rich Cimini
A position-by-position breakdown of the New York Jets' playing time, starting with the offense (based on 551 snaps):
Geno Smith -- 535 snaps/97 percent
Matt Simms -- 16 snaps/3 percent
Analysis: Say this for Smith -- he's getting plenty of on-the-job training. This much playing time will prove to be enormously beneficial in the long run.
Bilal Powell -- 336 snaps/61 percent
Tommy Bohanon -- 222 snaps/40 percent
Chris Ivory -- 133 snaps/24 percent
Alex Green -- 33 snaps/6 percent
Mike Goodson -- 30 snaps/5 percent
Analysis: Shockingly low numbers for Ivory and Goodson, who were expected to be the leaders of the backfield. Ivory's numbers should spike now that he's healthy. Goodson is done for the season. Powell absorbed some of the lost time from Ivory and Goodson; it also helps that he can play all three downs. The Jets used more two-back sets than many expected, which explains Bohanon's relatively high number at fullback.
Stephen Hill -- 414 snaps/75 percent
Jeremy Kerley -- 381 snaps/69 percent
Santonio Holmes -- 219 snaps/40 percent
David Nelson -- 155 snaps/28 percent
Clyde Gates -- 133 snaps/24 percent
Ben Obomanu -- 41 snaps/7 percent
Ryan Spadola -- 27 snaps/5 percent
Michael Campbell -- 24 snaps/4 percent
Josh Cribbs -- 7 snaps/1 percent
Analysis: This position has been hit hard by injuries, which explains the low number for Holmes and the high number for Kerley. Campbell, Spadola and Obomanu are no longer with the team, and Gates is on IR. Nelson has been a nice addition.
Jeff Cumberland -- 326 snaps/59 percent
Kellen Winslow -- 201 snaps/36 percent
Zach Sudfeld -- 40 snaps/7 percent
Konrad Reuland -- 24 snaps/4 percent
Sheldon Richardson -- 1 snap/.1 percent
Analysis: Before his suspension, Winslow was seeing more time than Cumberland, which was a surprise. Winslow still has one more game to serve. As you can see, depth is a major concern.
D'Brickashaw Ferguson -- 551 snaps/100 percent
Willie Colon -- 551 snaps/100 percent
Austin Howard -- 551 snaps/100 percent
Nick Mangold -- 549 snaps/99 percent
Vladimir Ducasse -- 292 snaps/53 percent
Brian Winters -- 263 snaps/48 percent
Caleb Schlauderaff -- 2 snaps/.3 percent
Analysis: They've been remarkably healthy, as the starters have missed only two snaps due to injury. Winters replaced Ducasse at left guard after the fourth game.
