Zab Judah was way too much for Vernon Paris, showing too much speed and power and smarts for the 24-year-old, and the Brooklyn, N.Y., native, fighting for the first time as a pro in his borough, notched a ninth-round TKO win at the Aviator Complex on Saturday.
Judah, 34, coming off a stinker of a showing against Amir Khan, showed up in shape and ready to rumble. Paris had some luck with sneaky quick rights and a couple of left hooks early, but Zab's quick hands made his eyes boggle. The end came with 27 seconds left in the ninth, with ref Steve Willis stepping in as Zab flurried and the Detroit boxer didn't defend himself.
Promoter Kathy Duva grinned widely and said her fighter looked "perfect." She would love to match him with Philadelphia young gun Danny Garcia, who beat Mexican vet Erik Morales in Houston tonight. Judah went 177-423, to 89-299 for Paris.
