NYFightblog readers know that fan fave Vinny Maddalone is embarking on a last-call effort to get over the hump, get a title shot and win a crown. He told us that he wanted to go overseas to whack out an up-and-comer in order to impress a Klitschko, and get a title crack.
The overseas shot has been secured; Maddalone, age 38, will take on 6-9 Irishman Tyson Fury on July 7 in England. The Queens-based banger, who has a 35-7 mark, with 26 KOs, will be the underdog against the 24 year-old Fury, a Brit who sports an 18-0 mark, with 13 stops.
"The Brits may be rooting for him in the beginning, but I guarantee they will be cheering for me by the end of the night," Maddalone said.
With his willingness, no, make that his compunction to trade, Maddalone has swayed more than one partisan crowd to chant "Vinny! Vinny!" after being impressed by his guts.
"I promise to give everything I've got -- the Brits are going to experience one hell of a fight and I plan on making lots of new fans," Maddalone said.
