Ticket tallies in for boxing debut at Barclays
By Michael Woods
The Oct. 20 debut for boxing at the Barclays Center, promoted by Golden Boy, drew 11,869 patrons, 9,635 of them purchased tickets, and the gate was approximately $1 million, according to a reputable source.
There was talk in the two weeks prior that a card topped by a Philly fighter, junior welter champ Danny Garcia, against a Mexican, Erik Morales, wasn't drawing buzz at the ticket window. The promoter did offer discounts and some promotional freebies to ensure a beefier turnout.
But all in all, for the first fight night at the new arena, that tally is not too shabby, from my perspective.
