Frazier will be buried in Beaufort, SC

By Michael Woods

Joe Frazier moved to Philadelphia as a teen, and is the quintessential Philly fighter:  seasoned to perfection, possessor of a jawbreaker left hook, not much prone to backing up in a battle. But the remains of Smokin' Joe, who passed away Monday from liver cancer, will lay at rest in Beaufort, SC, according to a forthcoming statement from his daughter Jacqui.

Frazier grew up in Beaufort County, and made it a point to remember his roots, stop back at the local barber shop in Beaufort, take pictures with the kids and their adoring fathers, too. He left for Philly at age 16, but Beaufort never left his heart.

There will be a viewing and funeral in Philly on Monday, and then his body will be shipped to South Carolina. There will be a private funeral service for family and close friends in Beaufort, where his body will lay for eternity. There will be a public viewing in Beaufort, as well, with details to come.
