Marcus Browne, Sadam Ali win in BK

By Michael Woods

Staten Island's own Marcus Browne took on Kevin Engel of St. Louis in a light heavy faceoff set for eight rounds or less. It went less at the Barclays Center, in early action Saturday night.

Browne, a lefty, got right to work with bad intentions. Engel was eating leather from the start and went down at the end of the first round. Though he was on a knee, he couldn’t make the count. Browne’s left hand was something he couldn’t deal with. Left to the body, left to the head, all spelled doom at 3:00 of the first via TKO.

Browne improves to 8-0, with seven stops. Engel is now 20-9.

A left hook put Jesus Selig of Arizona on the mat in Round 6, and Sadam Ali of Canarsie, Brooklyn, built on that moment the next round. Two straight rights landed clean and the ref stepped in, ending the clash at 22 seconds into Round 7. The welterweight victor improves to 18-0. Selig is now 12-2-1.
