On paper, you had to think Gabriel Bracero would have his hand raised at the end of the night at Roseland on Saturday night, as DeMarcus "Chop Chop" Corley had come in having lost six straight.
Ah, but paper is paper, and reality can be something else entirely. Corley, age 37, knocked the Sunset Park, Brooklyn fighter, age 30, to the canvas three times, and scored a unanimous decision victory. The judges had it unanimously for Corley (now 38-19), and they send Bracero back two steps. This was a stepup fight, but that he couldn't get past Corley, a former contender who is now seen as a solid trialhorse, has to hurt. Back to the proverbial drawing board for the ultra-likeable Bracero (now 18-1 with 3 KOs).
