Nets head coach Jason Kidd was asked by Newsday if he wants his players to stop engaging in a war of words with the rival Knicks.
“That's who my guys are. They have to be who they are,” Kidd replied Wednesday.
Kidd also told the newspaper that several players -- including Paul Pierce and Brook Lopez -- are working out at the team’s practice facility in East Rutherford, N.J., and that he wanted to have his jersey retirement ceremony before the team’s Oct. 17 preseason contest with the Heat so his team could focus on the game.
Earlier Wednesday, Kidd joked with ex-teammate Carmelo Anthony that Melo was Los Angeles-bound.
Anthony can become a free agent at season’s end, and the Lakers may be a team vying for his services.
The Brooklyn-born Anthony, however, isn’t going to be talking about his uncertain future.
“I’m not. I’m just not going to do it,” Anthony said, according to the Associated Press.
