Andrei Kirilenko has the unique ability to stuff the stat sheet in a variety of ways.
Nets coach Jason Kidd was asked Thursday who AK-47 reminded him of in terms of skill set.
“I mean, LeBron James,” Kidd said. “And I’m not putting AK in [LeBron's class in terms of talent], but when you talk about guys who fill up the stat sheet, that’s what he does and that’s what he’s always done. From rebounding to assists, points, steals, blocked shots, he’s done it all. That’s the kind of skill set he brings.”
In his preseason debut with the Nets, Kirilenko had 11 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and a block in 24 minutes.
• On the injury front, Deron Williams (right ankle) is doing some light shooting, Kidd said. There is no update on when he’ll return to full-contact practice. He is unlikely to play Saturday night against Detroit. ... Jason Terry (left knee) will practice Friday, and Kidd said the team plans to take it day by day. ... Gary Forbes (illness) has been cleared to practice. ... Jorge Gutierrez sprained his ankle in the fourth quarter against the Wizards. He is day to day, Kidd said.
• Kidd said he could not comment on the status of lead assistant coach Lawrence Frank, who missed the Wizards game because of personal reasons. What did Kidd miss without Frank around? “His height,” Kidd said jokingly.
He added: “He’s doing everything he’s supposed to be doing for us right now, and that’s taking care of his personal situation."
• Kevin Garnett joked that it was strange seeing Kidd in a tight suit. “That meant I didn’t play him enough,” Kidd said. “Also I think he understands fashion. And the good thing is that his vision is good.”
• The Nets did some extra shooting Wednesday. They did not practice Thursday.
