EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Paul Pierce won't know if this will be the best team he's ever played on until the season is over.

But he does feel this Nets team is the most versatile squad he's ever been a part of.

"Definitely the versatility of this group is unmatched by any team I have ever played on," Pierce said. "You got so many guys that can play multiple positions."

Pierce, Joe Johnson, Kevin Garnett, Andrei Kirilenko, Andray Blatche and Alan Anderson all can play multiple positions. Point guards like Deron Williams and Jason Terry also can slide to shooting guard if needed.

"Even from our starting 1, Deron can move over the 2-guard at times and put Shaun Livingston out there, Jason Terry can play the 1 or 2," Pierce said. "I can play the 2, 3 or 4. That is the one good problem that these coaches are going to have, figuring out the versatile lineups that they can throw at different teams."

Which leads us to the question of the day: if you're Jason Kidd, what lineups would you use when going big, small or defensive? Get creative and let us know below.

In case you missed it: Pierce sat out practice for precautionary reasons with a jammed toe. He's expected to be fine for the season opener.

Who will be coaching the Nets in the opener and in the second game of the season on Friday against Miami. Kidd is waiting to make it official but Lawrence Frank is expected to coach the Nets while Kidd serves his two-game suspension barring something unforeseen.

The 411: The Nets are scheduled to practice today. Mike Mazzeo will have updates here in the blog from practice.
