EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Brooklyn Nets forward Andrei Kirilenko (back spasms) hopes to participate in 5-on-5 drills at practice Tuesday, and is unsure about his status for Wednesday’s regular-season opener in Cleveland.

“Right now it’s day-to-day,” Kirilenko said Monday. “Tomorrow we’ll try to do more contact and see how it goes from there. [I] had a little setback a week ago, so it’s taking a bit longer.”

Kirilenko has dealt with back spasms for the last few seasons; he says they come up once or twice a season.

Kirilenko’s back began acting up at the team’s open practice at Barclays Center last Sunday. He did not travel with the Nets for their last two preseason games in Boston and Miami so he could rest.

Asked about playing Wednesday, Kirilenko said, “It’s all up to our trainer. I need to get some action on the floor 5 on 5. Tomorrow’s going to be my first day. We’ll see how it goes. Right now from this point [on] it’s going to be day-to-day.”

Also sitting out practice were point guard Deron Williams (rest), small forward Paul Pierce (jammed toe) and backup point guard Shaun Livingston (stiff neck).

Kidd said he was still unsure how many minutes Williams would be able to give the Nets Wednesday.

“We’ll see how he feels tomorrow,” Kidd said.

• Despite being suspended for the first two games of the season, Kidd said he will travel with the team to Cleveland.

He will address reporters at morning shootaround. He says he plans to watch the game with a friend of his, but hasn’t figured out where they’ll go yet.

Kidd won’t be allowed to be in contact with his coaching staff.

"My coaching staff is a veteran staff, they can handle it,” he said.

Lead assistant Lawrence Frank is expected to coach the team in Kidd’s place.
