Starting Five: Where's the defense?

November, 22, 2013
The Brooklyn Nets' defense couldn't stop the Bobcats in Charlotte for most of Wednesday night.

Friday, the Nets have to find a way to slow down Kevin Love, the kind of player who can really hurt the Nets inside the paint and outside the arc. The Wolves are much improved and can be explosive. Ricky Rubio and Kevin Martin could give the Nets fits.

During Wednesday's 95-91 loss to the Bobcats, the Nets allowed just 12 points in the fourth quarter, the fewest points they've surrendered in any quarter this season. But the Nets allowed 30 points in two other quarters in the loss. Charlotte grabbed 17 offensive rebounds and the Bobcats outscored the Nets 52-34 inside the paint.

Love must be salivating at the prospect of facing the Nets' defense, which also surrendered 31 points in a quarter against Portland and 34 in the fourth quarter against the Clippers earlier this season.

The Nets defense will have to be stingy if it wants to snap a three-game losing streak.

Up now: Brook Lopez has been moving better of late.

Net fact: The Nets, Bobcats and Lakers are tied for the highest number of different leading scorers this season according to Nets PR. Lopez has led the team in scoring six times with Andray Blatche and Joe Johnson leading the team twice each. Shaun Livingston, Paul Pierce, Mason Plumlee and Deron Williams also all led the team in scoring once each.

What's next: Nets play the Wolves at 8 p.m.

Net question: What can the Nets do to improve their defense? What do you think is their best defensive lineup? Tell us below.
