Williams finished with nine points and eight assists in 32 minutes, but shot just 3-for-9 from the field and committed four turnovers. He was booed by the crowd after missing a wide-open baseline layup in the third quarter.
“I need to play better. I need to be more aggressive for us to have a chance -- especially with Brook [Lopez] going down, that’s what I talked about is stepping up,” Williams said. “Tonight was just a bad game for me, throwing the ball all over the place, couldn’t hit a shot. It took my aggressiveness away, and I think I played into what they were trying to do.”
Williams tweaked his left ankle late in the fourth quarter and did not return to the game, but said afterward that he was “all right.”
“[The coaching staff] just took me out,” he said.
• The one bright spot for the Nets was the return of guard Jason Terry. Terry (knee) played for the first time since Nov. 20 in Charlotte, and scored 11 points while hitting three 3-pointers in 15 minutes.
“The fans of Brooklyn understand what it means to be out and to come back, and what I mean to this team,” Terry said. “The warm welcome they gave me was more than enough.”
• Starting in place of Lopez, Mirza Teletovic went 3-for-10 from the field -- 0-for-5 from 3-point range -- in 30 minutes. He scored eight points, grabbed four rebounds and dished out three assists.
