EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Jason Terry has been very vocal about his hate for the Miami Heat over the years -- and the Brooklyn Nets veteran guard always relishes the opportunity play against them.

“This is what you live for to play against the champions,” Terry said Friday morning. “To go out and show them what you can do. Obviously, it’s always personal with me. It’s never business. It’s always personal. And that’s just the way I’ve always approached games against the Heat. Regardless of who’s in those uniforms, it still says the Heat, and it still says they have more championships than I do. So until I catch up, then it’s gonna be personal.”

Terry said in a radio interview back in March that his hate for the Heat dates back to the 2006 NBA Finals.

“It’s not even LeBron [James] personally. It’s just the Miami Heat. Is it the red and black? Maybe. I hate that color,” Terry said. “I just don’t like them.”

Terry lost that series, but got his revenge with the Dallas Mavericks in 2011, when they won the championship over Miami.

Terry, 36, obviously has not had the same impact he did during those playoffs with the Nets this season. He’s played in just 20 games this season due to a knee injury.

“It’s getting better everyday. I’m moving around better,” Terry said of his knee. “Now that I’m moving around better, it has to be for longer spurts. J [coach Jason Kidd] is doing a great job of limiting my minutes and building me up. It’s a progression, I understand that. Is it frustrating? At times, yeah. But now that I’m getting back my strength and some of the things that made me a great sixth man, I’m very confident.”
