Notes from this side of the Atlantic

The Brooklyn Nets have a day off in London on Monday, before practicing on Tuesday and Wednesday in advance of Thursday’s game against the Atlanta Hawks.

A few thoughts for the day off:

Joe Johnson, All-Star reserve?

A couple people have tweeted about this. I suppose it’s possible.

His numbers -- 15.8 points per game, 43.7 field-goal percentage, 37.7 3-point percentage, 14.79 PER -- don’t exactly stand out. But he has accepted his role and has had some All-Star worthy moments: two 20-point quarters and two game-winning buzzer-beaters. And with Brook Lopez out, he’s the Nets' only candidate.

The Eastern Conference backcourt has been pretty decimated by injuries, so perhaps there’s an outside shot. But I just don’t see it happening.

The other likely candidates: DeMar DeRozan, Arron Afflalo, Bradley Beal, John Wall, Kemba Walker and Michael Carter-Williams.

The Nets’ best shot to have any representation in New Orleans during All-Star weekend? Probably either Mirza Teletovic (3-Point Shootout) or Mason Plumlee (Rising Stars Challenge).

• When is Deron Williams coming back? Williams did not travel to London due to injuries to both of his ankles.

Williams had the cortisone/PRP combo Monday, which means he will get at least five games and 15 days off. The Nets next play on Martin Luther King Day (Monday, Jan. 20) against the New York Knicks.

Last season, Williams had eight days off between injections and games. Then again, that was the first time he had the procedure.

The Nets are clearly being careful, and there’s no reason to rush Williams back. The team is hoping this rejuvenates Williams, as it did last season.

• The Nets were all given "plus-ones" for the trip to London. Plumlee is taking his mom.

“Man, I owe her for a lot,” Plumlee told reporters in Toronto. “I don’t have a girlfriend, so I’ll take my mom.”
