NEW YORK -- Brooklyn Nets guard Joe Johnson was selected to participate in the 3-point contest during All-Star weekend in New Orleans.

Johnson, a seven-time All-Star, will be competing in the event for the first time. He is shooting 38.9 percent from 3-point range this season.

Asked if he was surprised, Johnson replied, "Nah. I've known about it. We'll see what happens. ... I'm excited.”

Also competing in the 3-point contest: defending champion Kyrie Irving, Arron Afflalo, Bradley Beal, Marco Belinelli, Stephen Curry, Damian Lillard and Kevin Love.

Johnson is the third Nets player to compete in the 3-point contest, joining Anthony Morrow (2012) and the late Drazen Petrovic (1992).
