NEW YORK -- Only two rookie coaches have ever won more than one Eastern Conference Coach of the Month awards in the same season: Tom Thibodeau ... and Jason Kidd.

Kidd, who guided the Brooklyn Nets to a 12-4 record in March, was named Eastern Conference Coach of the Month again, the NBA announced Tuesday. He also captured the award in January.

“It’s not a coach award, it’s the way the guys are playing,” Kidd said. “And when the guys are playing great, my job is to stay out of the way. It’s a great honor for those guys. Unfortunately, they put the coach’s name on it.”

Kidd is the first coach in Nets’ franchise history to receive the honor twice in the same season.

During March, the Nets went 7-1 against teams with .500 or better records. They held 12 of their 16 opponents under 100 points -- including all nine times at home.

The Nets also scored 104 or more points in each of their last nine games in March. They shot 40.4 percent from 3-point range during the month -- third-best in the NBA over that span.

The Nets also led the league in steals per game (10.6).

Kidd said the only awards he really cherishes are the two Olympic gold medals and the NBA championship he obtained during his playing career.

“Everything else is just part of the game,” he said.
