Gordon: Collins acceptance was 'important'

Derrick Gordon, a native of nearby Plainfield, N.J., on Wednesday became the first openly gay player in Division I men’s college basketball.

Gordon said seeing Jason Collins come out and then sign with the Brooklyn Nets helped him a lot with his decision to publicly reveal his sexuality.

“That was important to me, knowing that sexuality didn’t matter, than the NBA was OK with it,” Gordon said.
