The Philippines senate has granted citizenship to Andray Blatche, paving the way for him to represent the Philippines in the World Championships this summer.
The only way that would not happen is if Philippine President Benigno Aquino III vetoes the bill. But Aquino is expected to sign it.
Chot Reyes, the coach of the Philippines national team, tweeted the news on Monday morning:
Blatche bill approved on third reading with affirmative vote of 20-0. Thank you Senate! Thank you Congress!

Blatche will have dual citizenship. He is not of Filipino descent, but joked that he was “half Filipino.”
Blatche has a player option with the Brooklyn Nets for 2014-15, but he has said he’s going to opt out and become an unrestricted free agent.
