EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Reggie Evans knows what he can do.

The rugged rebounder also knows what he can’t do.

“I ain’t trying to score,” Evans said Thursday, prompting laughter from the reporters in attendance at his news conference.

The Nets acquired the 32-year-old veteran in a sign-and-trade deal from the Clippers.

Evans called it “an honor” to come play for GM Billy King, who brought him to Philadelphia when King was an executive with the 76ers.

“They just felt like there was a need for what I brought to the Clippers, and really Billy was saying, ‘I just need you to do the same thing.’ I said, ‘All right, cool.’”

And what exactly is the “same thing”?

“Rebounding, playing defense, providing energy and just making sure my team is ready every day and being ready to practice every day,” Evans said. “It’s a really simple role. It’s less pressure on me. I just have to focus on one end of the floor.”

Evans said he’s also glad to be back on the East Coast, since he’s from Florida, and New York is certainly a lot closer to Florida than Los Angeles.
