EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Joe Johnson wanted to set the record straight on Thursday, telling reporters that he never asked out of Atlanta.

“Everybody thinks I made this trade,” the Nets' shooting guard said. “I had nothing to do with it.

“Every time I run into somebody when I’m in Atlanta, they ask me, ‘Why did you leave?’
I didn’t have nothing to do with it. I’m just glad that I came to a great organization and a team who wants to win.”

Johnson, who was acquired by the Nets in a blockbuster trade, was originally asked if he thought he’d be booed when he returned to Atlanta. The Hawks host the Nets on Jan. 16.

“It’ll probably be some boos, it’ll probably be some cheers,” he replied. “I have no idea, man. What do you think?”

• Nets coach Avery Johnson said Thursday the team will partake in a simulated game day on Friday. The Nets will come in for morning shootaround at the team’s practice facility, watch video tape, shoot pre-game and then play four quarters -- two or three of them with a running clock -- at the PNY Center at night. It will not be open to the media. The team will practice at Barclays Center for the first time on Sunday, Johnson said.

“I think it’s time,” Johnson said.

Josh Childress went out of Thursday’s practice due to a sore Achilles, but Johnson said he’s hopeful the reserve small forward can return Friday. ... Rookie guard Tyshawn Taylor missed practice due to the strained right quadriceps that continues to hamper him. Johnson said it’s not looking good for Taylor to return Friday, and will provide another update on him after Friday’s shootaround. Johnson said Taylor’s return is likely going to be next week. ... Johnson said Andray Blatche (back spasms) was fine in practice Thursday. ... Asked about Mirza Teletovic’s transition to the NBA, Johnson joked, “First of all the biggest adjustment is coming to America ... not the movie.”
