Despite being a game-time decision due to illness, Brooklyn Nets shooting guard Joe Johnson will start against the Phoenix Suns on Friday night.

Interim coach P.J. Carlesimo said the Nets will monitor Johnson’s minutes, but he could play his usual 36-38 depending on how he feels.

Johnson, 31, is averaging 17 points in 38.2 minutes a night. In his last four games, he’s averaging 20.3 points on 50 percent shooting. He has yet to miss a game yet this season.

Reserve forward Mirza Teletovic will not play due to illness, Carlesimo said. Reserve guard/forward Jerry Stackhouse is also out due to a sore hamstring. ‘

Sebastian Telfair, who grew up in the Coney Island section of Brooklyn and starred at Lincoln High School, will have a lot of friends and family at Barclays Center for the game. He had to buy about 25 tickets, and got 10-15 free.

“I think it’s extra, extra cool,” Telfair said of having an NBA team in Brooklyn. “I grew up in Coney Island and we had the Knicks, but it seemed like that was so far away from where I lived. For this arena to be right here, it means a lot. It means a lot to the kids that want to grow up to be basketball players, to be around the game, have the opportunity for the families to come and see the game, and see some of their favorite players, it’s a great thing for the city.”

Any extra nerves?

“None. Not at all. It’s going to be the same rim, same basketball,” Telfair said. “Other than a little pressure with family being here and being from here, it’s the same thing.”
