Brooklyn Nets point guard Deron Williams explained why he didn't talk to the media after being ejected late in Saturday night's loss to Houston.

"I just wanted to make sure I didn't say something stupid. That was it," Williams said Monday.

Williams scored 20 points in the first quarter on 7-for-7 shooting. But he rolled his ankle in the second and scored just seven points the rest of the way.

"I definitely got going in the first quarter and then cooled off," said Williams, who also dished out 11 assists.

RONDO REACTION: The Boston Celtics suffered a difficult blow Sunday, when they learned that point guard Rajon Rondo tore his ACL and would be lost for the season.

"It's definitely sad," Williams said. "You never want to see anybody have an injury like that. Hopefully he can come back strong."

So how does it impact the standings?

"It definitely hurts them as a team," Williams said. "He's their leader. It's definitely a devastating blow for the Celtics, but they still have a tough team."

Added shooting guard Joe Johnson: "Sometimes a big loss with a key player can really get other guys to step up and play big."

ALL-STAR NETS? Rondo was going to be a starter for the Eastern Conference All-Star team. Now, his injury opens up a spot on the team. Williams, Johnson and center Brook Lopez are among the possible candidates to replace Rondo.

"Being an All-Star is an All-Star. I think it's a great honor, however it comes," Williams said of possibly being an injury replacement.

Johnson agreed, pointing out that his first All-Star selection (2007) in Atlanta came as a result of then-Nets point guard Jason Kidd getting hurt.
