EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Brooklyn Nets point guard Deron Williams said Monday he received a call from Jerry Colangelo about Colangelo’s comments regarding Williams not being in great shape when the U.S. Olympic men’s basketball team began its training camp last summer.
Colangelo told the New York Daily News Saturday that Williams was "not in the best shape" and "a little overweight" before later clarifying his comments.
"There’s no reason to even talk about it," Williams said. "Something happened this summer and it’s over with. It wasn’t problem then, and it isn’t a problem now."
Did the whole ordeal bother Williams?
"No. I just know that when I signed back in New York that the scrutiny comes with it," Williams said. "It’s part of it. You guys gotta have your headlines and sell papers. That’s what your job is."
• Is Nets power forward Kris Humphries concerned about possibly missing a playoff game due to his May 6 divorce trial from Kim Kardashian?
"As long as I’m here, I’ll be here," Humphries said, clearly upset at the question.
