WHAT IT MEANS: The Brooklyn Nets avoided the NBA equivalent of a No. 2 versus No. 15 upset in Phoenix.

Despite blowing a 16-point lead, the Nets made enough plays down the stretch to sneak past the Suns 102-100 on Sunday night at US Airways Center.

The Nets (41-29) improved to 3-1 on their eight-game circus road trip and 25-4 against sub-.500 teams.

Deron Williams had 16 of his 20 points in the second half and added 11 assists, while Brook Lopez chipped in 21 points, five rebounds and two blocks. Goran Dragic had 33 points, 12 assists and nine rebounds in a losing cause for the Suns (23-48).

Joe Johnson sat out his fifth game of the season due to a right quadriceps contusion.

HUMP DAY: Kris Humphries, seeing significant minutes (28 in all) for a second consecutive game, scored a season-high 17 points while grabbing eight rebounds off the bench. He did have three air balls and a missed dunk, too.

THIRD IS THE BAD WORD: The Nets were outscored 33-20 in the third quarter and saw what was a 16-point lead turn into a 76-75 deficit heading into the fourth. Wesley Johnson had 17 points and five 3-pointers in the third.

SECOND IS THE BEST: The Nets outscored the Suns 30-18 in the second quarter and took a 55-43 lead into the locker room.

LOB CITY: No, we’re not going to confuse the Nets with the Los Angeles Clippers, but they did have two converted alley-oop passes in the first quarter, which is definitely a record for them this season. Humphries and Gerald Wallace were the recipients from D-Will.

UP NEXT: Nets at Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday night at 10:30 p.m.
