Starting Five: Big week ahead

By Mike Mazzeo

This is a busy week for some former Boston Celtics turned Brooklyn Nets:

On Monday, Jason Terry (ankle) will be re-evaluated.

On Tuesday, Deron Williams is expected to make his return to the lineup following a nine-game absence due to a sprained left ankle. Tuesday also should mark the first time Kevin Garnett faces his old team. And of course, it will mark the return of Gerald Wallace, Kris Humphries, MarShon Brooks and Keith Bogans to Brooklyn. Paul Pierce will not play because of his broken hand.

On Thursday, Garnett should face his former coach, Doc Rivers, for the first time. Garnett and Pierce both missed the team’s road game against Rivers’ Los Angeles Clippers on Nov. 16.

• The Nets (6-14) are coming off a victory Saturday night over the worst team in the Eastern Conference, the Milwaukee Bucks. For this decimated squad, any win is a good win. Still, it won’t mean much of anything unless they can string a couple together and get some momentum going. After all, the Nets did the same thing in Memphis and then gave up 224 points in their next two games. They have still yet to have a winning streak this season.

• Looking for a good laugh? Read Lawrence Frank’s Daily Reports from his website.

• Wondering what the Nets are going to put on the back of their “nickname jerseys?”

Reggie Evans: Joker
Garnett: The Big Ticket
Joe Johnson: JJ
Andrei Kirilenko: Kirilenko (in Russian) -- should’ve went AK-47
Brook Lopez: Brooklyn (same name on the front and back, as he said he would)
Pierce: Truth
Terry: Jet
Mason Plumlee: Plums (our favorite)
Williams: D-Will

Question: What are you most looking forward to this week?

In case you missed it: My blog on the Nets’ victory over the Bucks.

Stat right? Plumlee, who might now be out of the rotation, leads with Nets with 22 dunks. As of Sunday, that ranked tied for 16th in the NBA with David Lee.

Up next: Monday practice. I’ll have you covered.
