W2W4: Nets vs. Hawks

By Mike Mazzeo

The Brooklyn Nets look to tie their season-best winning streak (three) Monday night against the Atlanta Hawks. Here’s what we’ll be watching for:

CAN THE STREAK CONTINUE? The Nets (12-21) are coming off consecutive victories over the Oklahoma City Thunder and Cleveland Cavaliers.

Two constants emerged in those games:
1. They played a small lineup.
2. More importantly, Jason Kidd didn’t wear a tie. Kidd has said he won’t wear one again. Superstition! It’s unknown if he’ll go small again, but it would certainly make sense, especially considering Deron Williams (25 points per) and Paul Pierce (17.5) have flourished. Joe Johnson (15-for-50 in his last five games) hasn’t, but says he’ll get his shot back.

HAWK EYE: The Hawks (18-16) are in third place in the Eastern Conference. That same record would put them solidly in ninth in the West.

Crazy. Anyway, the Hawks won’t have Al Horford for the rest of the season, essentially the equivalent of the Nets losing Brook Lopez. Paul Millsap is their best player. Kyle Korver, a Brooklyn offseason target, and Jeff Teague are pretty good, too. By the way, these two teams meet again in London in 10 days.

SENT DOWN (FOR NOW): The Nets assigned Toko Shengelia and Tyshawn Taylor to their NBDL affiliate in Springfield, Mass.
